Ulta Beauty has raised its full-year profit forecast after reporting confidence in the resilience of consumer spending on premium beauty products, signaling that demand for high-end fragrances, skincare items and cosmetics remains strong despite broader economic pressures.

The retailer said it now expects annual earnings per share to range between $28.36 and $28.80, up from its previous guidance of $28.05 to $28.55. The improved outlook reflects stronger operating performance, lower inventory-related losses and continued customer demand across key product categories.

Investors welcomed the updated forecast, sending Ulta Beauty shares up about 5% in after-hours trading as the company demonstrated progress in its ongoing turnaround efforts under Chief Executive Officer Kecia Steelman.

The company has been working to strengthen its market position while navigating rising expenses associated with expanding its store network, enhancing marketing initiatives and investing in long-term growth strategies. Despite those higher costs, management believes operational improvements and steady customer spending will help support profitability throughout the remainder of the year.

Ulta’s performance adds to a growing body of evidence from the U.S. retail sector showing that consumers, particularly those in higher-income households, continue to spend on discretionary products even as they face higher fuel costs and broader economic uncertainty. While many shoppers have become more selective about purchases, demand for premium and trend-driven products has remained resilient.

The beauty retailer reported stronger sales across its stores, driven largely by affluent consumers as well as younger shoppers who continue to spend on popular beauty brands. Fragrance and skincare products were among the strongest-performing categories, benefiting from ongoing consumer interest in premium offerings that typically generate higher profit margins for retailers.

Industry analysts have noted that the beauty sector has proven more resilient than many other discretionary retail categories, with consumers often continuing to purchase personal care and prestige beauty products even when cutting back in other areas of spending. This trend has helped support sales growth for major beauty retailers and brands over the past year.

Ulta’s improved forecast suggests management expects these favorable trends to continue through the second half of the year. The company is also benefiting from tighter inventory management, which has reduced losses tied to excess or discounted merchandise and contributed to stronger overall financial performance.

As competition within the beauty industry intensifies, Ulta continues to focus on expanding its product assortment, strengthening customer loyalty programs and attracting younger consumers who are increasingly influential in shaping beauty trends. The company believes these efforts, combined with sustained demand for premium beauty products, will position it for continued growth despite a challenging retail environment.

The upgraded earnings outlook marks an encouraging sign for the retailer as it seeks to build momentum under its new leadership and capitalize on consumers’ ongoing willingness to spend on high-quality beauty and personal care products.
