Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

DEAR BONNIE: Can anyone become a medium? I have always felt a deep connection to the spiritual world, but I worry that I wasn’t born with a special ‘gift.’ I see others connecting with loved ones so easily and wonder if that door is closed to someone like me. Is mediumship something that only a few chosen people possess or is it possible for anyone to develop these senses? I truly want to understand if I can learn to hear the whispers from the other side. Thanks, Julian

DEAR JULIAN: Think of mediumship like a musical instrument. While some souls are born with a natural “ear” for the melodies of the Spirit world, those who seem to hear the music from the moment they arrive the ability itself is a sacred innate part of being human. We are all made of the same divine energy as those on the other side; we are simply vibrating at a different frequency right now.

Inside every one of us is a “spiritual radio.” For many the dial has simply been turned down by the noise of everyday life logic or the fast pace of the world. Learning mediumship isn’t about acquiring a new power; it’s about remembering how to listen. It is the process of:

• Sitting in the Power: Learning to be still enough to feel the subtle shift in the air when a loved one draws near.

• Trusting the Subtle: Recognizing that a sudden memory, a soft scent, or a stray thought might be a “hello” from Heaven.

• Opening the Heart: Mediumship is, at its core, a bridge of love. When we lead with love, the door to the other side naturally begins to swing open.

While the capacity is within everyone, the practice takes patience and dedication. Just as you would practice scales on a piano, developing your “clairs” — your spiritual seeing, hearing, and feeling — takes time and a gentle touch.

Some may develop the ability to give professional readings, while others may find that their mediumship blossoms as a beautiful, private way to stay connected to their own ancestors and guides. Both are equally sacred.

So, if you feel a tug at your soul or a curiosity about the world unseen, know that the desire itself is often a sign that your own spiritual team is tapping on your shoulder, waiting for you to say “hello.”

You are never alone, and the light is always reaching back to you. However, if you feel called to become a professional medium many choose to study or find mentorship to grow and enhance their gifts. Look for a teacher that resonates with you and that you feel comfortable to help shape your innate gifts.
