Whenever there is the whiff of original content on the horizon, it is always something to celebrate. It lets us know that the well of creativity has not been overdrawn. Peacock recently released the trailer for its new horror thriller, Strung, and not only does it look positively anxiety-inducing, but it is also the exact chiller viewers need to bring in a searing summer.

The Maestro Behind the Lens

Strung is the newest work from Malcolm D. Lee, a consummate filmmaker who has steered most of his life toward this endeavor. Lee fine-tuned his knowledge, artistic vision, and eye at some of the most prestigious schools in the country. Per Morehouse,

After completing his undergraduate studies at Georgetown University in 1992 with a BA in English and a fine arts minor, Lee accepted a year-long fellowship in screenwriting from Walt Disney Studios. Following that early Hollywood experience, he gained entry into New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he honed his craft as a director and writer and went on to make the award-winning short film Morningside Prep.

Lee was not only born for this, but he was also built for this.

From Comedies to Chills

That foundation has served him well through a varied filmography. Some of his works include Girls Trip, Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, Night School, and Undercover Brother. More recently, Lee has been busy expanding his imprint in the entertainment world.

Through his Blackmaled Productions banner, he is currently overseeing several feature and television projects in development.

Strung is one of the first on the docket, and it is set to premiere on June 26th on Peacock.

A Story That Strikes a Chord

The title Strung, as simple as the term is, resonates beautifully with the frames within the trailer. The film centers around a violinist, an aficionado of the stringed instrument who takes a job as a tutor. The position is to die for, extra attractive as it serves to bring her into the world of the elite. Still, dreams can quickly become nightmares. As the log line contends,

The opportunity turns into a battle for safety and sanity when she realizes her past links to the family’s patriarch. Before long, it is a fight for her sanity and survival.

A Symphony of Talent

What makes the project even more exciting is the casting. The cast includes reputable talent, those who have been laying their own stakes in the industry. Chloe Bailey stars as the violinist, while Lynn Whitfield plays the welcoming matriarch. The other cast members include Coco Jones, Lucien Laviscort, Anna Diop, and more. Behind the camera, the producers include Jason Blume, Malcolm D. Lee, Alan D. McElroy, and Tyler Perry, to name a few. With a talented cast, a visionary director, an intriguing story, and an overall solid production team, expectations tip the balance toward a must-see.

Take It In

For those who need a little more of a visual appetizer, take in the trailer. And if it suits your fancy, mark your calendars.
