CARMEL- Putnam Sheriff Brian Hess realizes the financial burden higher education can place on families.
“As a parent with one child currently in college and another preparing to begin this fall, I decided to create a scholarship fund to help ease that strain, even in a small way, for students and families in Putnam County,” said the sheriff who added: “Supporting young people who work hard, give back to their community, and strive to better themselves is something I believe is incredibly important, and I’m proud to be able to invest in the next generation.”
Hess’ scholarship fund recognizes and supports graduating high school seniors who demonstrate strong character, leadership, integrity, and a commitment to their community.
Rooted in the values of service, dedication, and community involvement, the scholarship supports future leaders as they pursue post-secondary education.
Starting this year, one graduating senior from each of the five high schools in Putnam will be selected to receive a $500 scholarship award to assist with college, university, trade school, or other accredited post-secondary educational expenses.
“The goal of this scholarship is to support students who not only work hard academically, but who also demonstrate leadership, resilience, and a commitment to their community,” said Hess.
Applicants must be graduating seniors enrolled in a Putnam County high school.
Recipients will be selected through a comprehensive evaluation process. are now open and must be submitted by June 1.
