And just like that it’s Memorial Day and summer is here. The holiday weekend is early this year, and it means outdoor activities take precedence over indoor gallery openings. But nothing beats an air-conditioned gallery and savoring art when the sun beats down outside.
Here are a few galleries and museums to consider when it’s time to beat the heat. International Museum Day is celebrated worldwide. This year’s theme is “Museums Uniting a Divided World,” which highlights the potential of museums to act as bridges across cultural, social, and geopolitical divides, fostering dialogue, understanding, inclusion and peace within and between communities worldwide.
Fitchburg Art Museum is happy to join these worldwide celebrations and lift these shared values. To celebrate museums and members, FAM invites anyone who joins or renews their membership to receive 13 months of museum membership. This offer is valid through May 25.
The Arts League of Lowell Greenwald Gallery has an exhibit of artists and their work who have studios in the Gates Block. It is on through May 31. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Sunday, noon-4 p.m. and it is located at 307 Market Street.
The Concord Museum has a couple of noteworthy events coming up in the next few week, Including its annual Garden Tour on Friday-Saturday, June 5-6. Join in for a day of beauty, nature, and discovery as you visit six stunning gardens throughout Concord.
The tour will offer a wide variety of garden styles and features, including decorative elements and vegetable beds, manicured spaces and naturalistic plantings, native species and showstopper plantings.
Each tour location offers an approach to creating gardens that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, complement the architectural features of the home, and offer delightful settings for everyday living. This year’s gardens also showcase expansive patios, immaculate pools and water features, hand-cut fieldstone walls, winding paths and terraces. All proceeds benefit the museum’s vital school programs that serve over 15,500 K-12 students across the commonwealth each year.
