FITCHBURG — The Fitchburg Health Department announced that a series of mini-grants that will be available under the Opioid Abatement funds allocated to the city of Fitchburg. Proposals are now being accepted for $5,000, $7,500, $10,000 and $12,500 grants. A total of 15 grants will be awarded totaling $100,000.

Proposals will be accepted from agencies, groups, or organizations seeking to strengthen resources available to communities and families for substance use disorder prevention, harm reduction, treatment and recovery. For-profits, nonprofits, faith-based communities and other community coalitions are eligible to apply.

This is an opportunity to think “out of the box” and propose an innovative project.

The State Subdivision Agreement’s shared commitment between the commonwealth and municipalities states that Opioid Abatement Funds must be used to supplement and strengthen, rather than supplant, resources for prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery.

The Agreement presents the following seven general strategies that municipalities may implement with abatement funds:

• Opioid Use Disorder Treatment Support and promote treatment of persons with OUD
• Support People in Treatment and Recovery
• Connections to Care
• Harm Reduction
• Address the Needs of Criminal-Justice-Involved Persons
• Support Pregnant or Parenting Women and Their Families, Including Babies with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome
• Prevent Misuse of Opioids and Implement Prevention Education Support efforts to prevent misuse of opioids through implementation of a validated survey tool to develop localized strategic plans that will inform the best ways to institute or enhance strategies to reduce and prevent youth substance misuse.

Proposals are due May 22, 2026 with projects being implemented July 1, 2026.
