GARDNER — Theatre at the Mount invites performers to “kick off their Sunday shoes” and audition for “Footloose, The Musical” the electrifying musical that celebrates the power of youth, resilience and rock ’n’ roll rebellion.

Packed with well-known hits, including “Holding Out for a Hero,” “Let’s Hear It for the Boy” and the title song “Footloose,” the production follows city teenager Ren McCormack as he challenges a small town where dancing has been banned, proving that one voice — and one dance — can spark change.

Auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 18, and Tuesday, May 19, in Room A110 (formerly 182) at Mount Wachusett Community College, 444 Green St.

Appointments are required. To schedule an audition time, call 978‑630‑9388 or e-mail [email protected].

The production will be directed by Will Gelinas, with music direction by Dave Twiss and choreography by Kaden Scopelitti.

A large cast of teens and adults ages 16 and up is being sought.

Those auditioning should prepare a short vocal selection that highlights their range. If not singing from the show, performers must bring sheet music (no MuseScore printouts). Comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended for the dance portion, and some roles will include cold readings from the script.

Principal and ensemble roles include Ren McCormack, Ariel Moore, Reverend Shaw Moore, Vi Moore, Rusty, Willard Hewitt, Chuck Cranston, along with a strong ensemble of townspeople and students. Most ensemble members will be asked to both sing and dance.

Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled for Sundays from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 10 p.m.

“Footloose is going to be an absolute blast for the community — the perfect follow‑up to last summer’s wildly successful ‘Grease,’” said Gail Steele, director of Theatre at the Mount. “It’s packed with big energy, great music and that same feel‑good spirit that brings everyone out to cheer, dance in their seats and have a great night together.”

Performances will be held Aug. 7, 8, 14, 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 9 and 16 at 2 p.m.
