NEWBURGH- Summer vacation is less than two months away for high school students in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District.

But the district is already looking forward to the first day of school in the 2026-2027 academic year when the new $80 million Career and Technical Education Center opens for students and community members.

Friday, the district offered a tour of the new facility, which is undergoing its final construction phase.

The facility, on an adjoining hill above the main Newburgh Free Academy campus, will offer a variety of programs including auto body and automotive technology, welding, construction, health sciences, culinary arts, fashion design, criminal justice, barbering, cosmology, photography, video production and training to become a veterinary technician.

“This is a wonderful opportunity, not only for the students at NFA, but also members of the community,” said Jackie Manning Campbell, district superintendent. “One of the goals that we have is to make sure that we have an opportunity to offer some programs, some certified programs for adults in the community.”

BOCES offers similar programs on a regional level, but this career and technology center will solely be dedicated locally to the greater Newburgh community.

“BOCES offers to many different school districts, so this is our program,” said Manning Campbell. “This is no limit on seats. Our students have the opportunity to explore and launch their careers.”
