WORCESTER — The Hanover Theatre has some exciting things coming up including the end of an era for a globally recognized ballerina.
Ingrid Silva will be taking her final bow with the Dance Theatre of Harlem at the Worcester venue on Saturday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. It marks the end of her nearly two-decade run with the company and is a rare chance for local audiences to see a talented trailblazing artist who has helped reshape ballet.
Silva, who rose from Brazil to one of the world’s leading ballet companies, is known for pushing ballet forward both on and off stage. After spending years painting her pointe shoes to match her skin tone, she later saw her custom-made shoes enter the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture as a marker of her impact in dance inclusivity.
Beyond the stage, Ingrid has used her 660K+ Instagram following to advocate for Black dancers — co-founding Blacks in Ballet in the process — and for greater support for mothers in the industry, even performing through her own pregnancy. Silva says this is not a retirement though as she will continue to juggle multiple independent projects along with choreography commissions scheduled into next year and a new dancewear line in the works.
Another sure to be stellar show coming to the Hanover is Meredith Wilson’s six-time Tony Award-winning comedy “The Music Man,” which opens on Friday, May 15 and runs through the 17th with five opportunities to see it.

The musical comedy follows a fast-talking traveling salesman as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize, ultimately planning to use the cash to skip town. Meredith Wilson’s iconic humor, wordplay, and optimism shine in this reimagination of a beloved classic, helmed by veteran director Matt Lenz and the production features new dances for the citizens of River City choreographed by Emmy Award winner, Tony Award nominee, and critically acclaimed choreographer Joshua Bergasse.
Long Island Medium Theresa Caputo is coming to The Hanover Theatre Thursday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. For more than a decade Caputo has connected with audiences through her powerful and emotional readings, offering comfort, insight, and moments of unexpected humor. In “Theresa Caputo Live: The Experience,” she takes the stage for an interactive show, giving fans the opportunity to meet with her face-to-face as Spirit guides her through the audience, delivering personal messages while sharing stories about her life and unique gift.
In addition to these and other shows and performances featured in this and the upcoming season, Worcester area kids and teens have the opportunity to shine on stage themselves as part of The Hanover Theatre & Conservatory for the Performing Arts’ summer educational programs.
Ideal for families seeking engaging, hands-on experiences in dance and musical theatre, the lineup offers immersive training from a roster of professional educators alongside the opportunity to participate in exciting productions for students of all ages and experience levels. The programs culminate in student productions of Disney’s “Frozen Jr.” and “The Prom School Edition,” performed at The BrickBox Theater and The Hanover Theatre main stage.
