Been doing some spring cleaning and have stuff to get rid of? A trio of upcoming city and townwide yard sales in the region is the perfect opportunity to do just that.
Townwide yard sales
Residents of Ashburnham, Fitchburg and Leominster can sign up to be part of the townwide yard sales taking place on the same day in each location — on Saturday, May 16, and Fitchburg also includes Sunday, May 17.
The one in Ashburnham runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, and doubles as a fundraiser for New Dawn Arts Center. For $20 participants can have their address added to the map, or for $25 they can set up their own yard sale booth at the art center located at 84 Main St. Maps will be available for purchase that Saturday morning beginning at 7:30 a.m. at New Dawn and for more information visit newdawnarts.org/yardsale.
The annual Fitchburg Citywide Yard Sale runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both weekend days, Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, rain or shine. Email [email protected] with address, dates, time and description to be included on the map — free to participate — and visit FitchburgYardSale.com to view the map.
Over in Leominster the event will be held on Saturday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is also being held rain or shine — it is up to each participating address whether or not they hold their yard sale in the event of inclement weather. City residents are asked to register their address by Friday, May 8, at 4 p.m. by visiting tinyurl.com/CitywideYardSale2026 so organizers can prepare the interactive map — no registrations will be accepted after the deadline.
Fitchburg cleanup
This coming Saturday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to noon, will be the last Keep Fitchburg Beautiful city-sponsored cleanup of the spring. Volunteers can meet at High and Pleasant streets and are encouraged to bring friends, work gloves and a helping hand. Bags, plastic gloves and disposal support will be provided along with coffee, donuts and a light lunch, and refreshments will also be provided by Salvation Army Fitchburg Corps.
“Every bag filled, every sidewalk cleared, and every patch of litter removed helps show pride in our city,” Fitchburg Mayor Sam Squailia shared about the cleanups, which she helps organize and has participated in for years. “These events make a visible difference, and they remind all of us what we can accomplish when we work together. I hope to see many of you out there with us. Together, we can keep Fitchburg beautiful … one cleanup at a time.”
Home cleanouts are not accepted. LED and CRT TVs and monitors will be accepted for a $10 fee, and mattresses and box springs will be accepted for a $20 fee each. For questions contact the Fitchburg Health Department at 978-829-1870 or the Mayor’s Office at [email protected].
Leominster cleanups
Leominster’s cleanups run through May 22. Stop by the Office of Business and Tourism — Room 6 at Leominster City Hall — during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and until 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays, to sign up to participate and pick up a free volunteer T-shirt along with trash bags and gloves.
Supplies are limited and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Once you are done, call the Leominster Department of Public Works at 978-534-7596 to let them know where you left your bags and they’ll come get them.
“Pick your time, pick your location, and pick up some trash,” the event info states. “You’ll be helping to keep Leominster looking great!”
