Art is all around us and it is especially significant when spring arrives in all its glory.

Mother’s Day weekend is a fitting time to enjoy the art around us and take Mom to a museum or gallery for a special outing. After all, she’d rather spend time with you than have another bouquet or breakfast in bed.

Here are a few ideas to mull over and help you decide what to do:

Fitchburg Art Museum has free admission in honor of its centennial so you can take mom to check out the exhibitions for nothing. May highlights include a Curator Talk on Saturday, May 9; Members Mix & Mingle with artist Tara Sellios on Friday, May 15, and Drumming Workshop with Crocodile River Music on Saturday, May 30.

May 15 is the last day to apply for the 90th annual Regional Exhibition of Art and Craft. And exhibits include “Kaleidoscope: 100 Years of Collecting for Our Community;” Tara Sellios: “Ask Now the Beasts;” and “Fesitval: A Celebration of African Art” at the Fitchburg Art Musuem.
