NASHUA, N.H. — A convicted felon is facing more felony charges after he allegedly confronted two men in a Motel 6 parking lot while holding what police described as a “large Samurai‑style sword.”

The Nashua Police Department said officers responded to the motel at 2 Progress Ave. on Monday after two men reported that 52‑year‑old Frederick Dehner, of Nashua, had threatened them with a sword.

In court documents it states that when Dehner approached the two men he had the sword “raised over his shoulder.”

Police located Dehner sitting inside his vehicle in the parking lot and they recovered the sword from the scene.

Police said they gathered statements from the victims and reviewed video footage of the encounter before taking Dehner into custody.

Dehner is charged with two counts of criminal threatening with a deadly weapon and one count of felon in possession of a deadly weapon, all Class B felonies. Court documents show Dehner entered no plea on all three charges during his arraignment in the 9th Circuit Nashua District Court on Tuesday.

He was ordered detained following that arraignment.

Court documents also state that Dehner’s previous felony conviction was for possession of a controlled drug in Hillsborough County Superior Court South in 2001.

Dehner’s attorney, Alex Fernald, was not immediately available for comment.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to contact the Nashua Police Department Crime Line at 603‑589‑1665.
