LOCH SHELDRAKE – State University of New York Chancellor John King Jr joined Sullivan County Community College President David Potash and Sullivan County government representatives to highlight their respiratory care program. This is part of SUNY Reconnect, a free community college initiative for adults ages 25 to 55, in high-demand fields. We spoke with the Chancellor about the importance of RECONNECT.
“You’ve the opportunity to come to one of our community colleges (and) get a two-year degree,” he said. “If you’re going into something like nursing, you’re talking about making $80,000 coming out of that nursing program. That’s going to change the economic situation for your family, for generations.”
He visited the ATTAIN Lab, where students can study for the G.E.D. exam, then he talked with students in the respiratory care program who took advantage of RECONNECT’s free tuition and books, as well as other available resources.
“So I’m just proud of you all what you’re doing. Grateful to you. And the thing I would ask of you is just tell people about SUNY Sullivan and how good an experience you’ve had.”
Potash echoes the Chancellor’s remarks. “It’s a win for so many students. It’s a win for our community. And SUNY Sullivan’s just happy to be a part of it.”
