WORCESTER — On Thursday, Congressman Jim McGovern, D-Massachusetts Second Congressional District/Worcester, officially announced his decision to run for reelection, vowing to keep fighting for working families and continue holding the administration of President Donald Trump accountable for rampant corruption.

“With so much abundance in America, no one should struggle to get by,” McGovern said in his campaign launch video. “But instead of fixing our rigged system, Republicans in Congress are ripping away folks’ healthcare and food assistance, just so they can give their billionaire donors massive tax breaks.”

McGovern said that as ranking member of the House Rules Committee, he has delivered for his constituents, and has been at the forefront of fighting for policies that prioritize working people over powerful special interests, greedy billionaires and corrupt politicians in Washington.

McGovern said he is also among the fiercest critics of the Trump administration — calling out what he called House Speaker Mike Johnson’s abdication of his constitutional role, and holding him accountable for turning the House of Representatives into a rubber stamp for the Trump administration’s corrupt authoritarian agenda.

“From forcing families to choose between putting food on the table and paying the rent — to unleashing masked ICE agents on our communities — this administration is building an America I don’t recognize,” said McGovern. “The America I know is compassionate and caring. It provides opportunity and the chance to get ahead. And it knows that our moral leadership is our strength.”

McGovern said that extreme MAGA Republicans continue to shred the constitution, protect the rich and powerful, and increase the cost of everything from groceries and gas to housing and health care, so he is vowing to continue fighting for a more equitable and fair future where everyone has a chance to succeed — and no one struggles to survive.

“I’m running for reelection to fight for an America where everyone can buy a home, afford quality healthcare, and put food on the table,” McGovern said. “I love this country. And when you love something, you fight for it.”
