YONKERS – An off-duty state trooper shot a carjacking suspect as she was finishing up refueling her vehicle at a gas station in Yonkers early Sunday afternoon.

The suspect, a 17-year-old youth, brandished a knife and got into the driver’s seat of her car, and that’s when she fired one shot from her off-duty firearm, striking him in the left arm. The round continued into his torso.

The driver accelerated, driving through a shed and fence before coming to a rest in a parking lot of an adjacent apartment building on Midland Avenue.

Investigators said the youth, whose name was not made public because of his age, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds where he remains in stable condition.

The suspect was charged with three counts of robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.

The incident is being investigated by Yonkers City Police Major Case Squad while an internal review is being conducted by State Police.
