CARMEL – A small army of volunteers arose early Sunday and sorted hundreds of non-perishables and household items prior to delivering the care packages to dozens of families in need across Putnam County.
The mission was accomplished thanks to Hudson Valley Patriots for Immigration Reform, an organization advocating for the rights of immigrants throughout the Hudson Valley.
The group has been actively protesting ICE tactics while urging local officials to condemn ICE raids and limit cooperation.
Volunteers have organized rallies, lobbied town boards, and pressed county executives to rethink cooperation with immigration authorities.
They have also taken a leading role in organizing rallies to address the concerns raised by recent immigration enforcement actions by ICE.
Good Samaritans donated food and other household items during the Putnam Black Lives Matter rally, as well as at the weekly Saturday demonstrations held in the Village of Brewster.
Recipients were thrilled when their households received generously packed goodie bags.
