On Friday, April 24, members of the Armenian Diaspora and friends joined Fitchburg Mayor Sam Squailia and City Councilor Sally Cragin to raise the Armenian flag for the fifth consecutive year in honor of “Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.” Squailia presented a proclamation recognizing “the strength and resilience of the Armenian People and the Republic of Armenia on this 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide,” and that “emigrants from Armenia have found a home in Fitchburg since 1890, and have contributed to the economic vitality and cultural enrichment of the city,” and that “as mayor, I urge everyone to reaffirm our dedication to ensuring that the Armenian Genocide is never forgotten and that we always raise our voices against hatred and atrocities wherever they may happen.” In the top photo, from left, front row, are: Squailia, Cragin, Peg Padovano, Jean Manooshian, Gayane Seppelin and Tiegan Schulz; in back, from left, are: City Council President Anthony Zarella, Ward 1 City Councilor Bernie Schulz, Dr. John Bogdasarian and Jack Manooshian.
