Court reverses prior order tied to restraining case following confiscation of weapons by local authorities.

A judge has overturned a firearms prohibition placed on James O’Keefe, reversing a prior order that required him to surrender his weapons following a restraining order dispute in Florida.
The decision came after officers from the West Palm Beach Police Department confiscated O’Keefe’s firearms at his organization’s headquarters. The seizure followed a court directive issued earlier in the month after a restraining order had been extended against him.
Video of the incident was shared online, showing law enforcement entering the premises and removing the firearms, as seen in a post.
The underlying dispute stems from a domestic violence restraining order filed by Matthew Tyrmand, a former board member of Project Veritas. The order was served to O’Keefe by a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy while he was livestreaming from his office in West Palm Beach.
O’Keefe publicly addressed the situation, stating, “Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department just served me with a domestic violence restraining order from Matthew Tyrmand. The former board member from Project Veritas who said he wants to murder me.” He further alleged that Tyrmand had previously expressed threats against him, including statements recorded during a prior encounter.
In that encounter, which O’Keefe said took place at a restaurant in Miami Beach and was recorded on video, Tyrmand allegedly made statements about harming him. Footage of that interaction was later circulated online in a separate video post.
According to O’Keefe, Tyrmand also engaged in actions intended to intimidate him, including damaging a copy of his book. O’Keefe said, “He even shot up my book with rifle bullets through my heart on the cover.”
The restraining order had been extended by a judge earlier in April, at which point O’Keefe was ordered to surrender his firearms. That ruling was later reversed, restoring his ability to possess weapons.
A social media post documenting the court’s latest decision circulated online following the ruling, as seen in this update.
The case remains centered on competing claims between O’Keefe and Tyrmand related to alleged threats and conduct, with legal proceedings continuing around the restraining order dispute.
