POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Sheriff Kirk Imperati is dedicated to protecting victims of domestic violence and is demonstrating it through specialization. Imperati spoke with Mid-Hudson News before taking part in the annual Art Show & Candlelight Vigil sponsored by the Dutchess County District Attorney and Family Services Inc.

The gathering honors crime victims and survivors by sharing their stories and recognizing professionals dedicated to supporting victims’ rights and self-determination.

“Our dedication, from our detectives to our road patrol deputies, and Undersheriff Jason Mark, in protecting victims of domestic violence and protecting their families, is evident,” Imperati said.  “I am the only law enforcement agency in Dutchess County with a dedicated domestic violence unit – because it’s very important.”  The sheriff continued, saying, “The number of cases we handle each year and the number of orders of protection that we serve, and the follow-up we do with them in order to protect the victims and their families is very important to us and always will be,” adding that his agency will “continue to get better each and every day.”
