FITCHBURG — The combined choral forces of Christ Church and Fitchburg State University will be presenting an English Renaissance-themed concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at Christ Church, 569 Main St.
The program will include music by William Byrd, Emma Lou Diemer, Orlando Gibbons, Adolphus Hailstork, and Thomas Tallis among others, with adapted texts by William Shakespeare. There is a suggested donation of $10 per person ($5 for students), and a light reception will follow in Guild Hall.
The choirs will be joined by Seven Times Salt, a Boston-based consort specializing in music of the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as soloist Alexis Guillemette, pianist Kris Layton, and organist Robert Potterton III who also serves as Minister of Music & the Arts at Christ Church.
“The relationship that Fitchburg State Choirs and Christ Church Fitchburg Choir have cultivated over years has been a tremendously valuable source of experience for student musicians at the University. And this spring, to join forces with Seven Times Salt, allows us to explore this beautiful music at a very high level, in a glorious space! In addition to gems of the English Renaissance, the Fitchburg State singers will also be performing music from the modern world that is deeply influenced by that era. It should be a delightful afternoon,” said Dr. Jonathan Harvey, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choirs at the University.
