President Donald Trump is facing his lowest job approval rating of his second term, as mounting public frustration over rising living costs and the ongoing conflict with Iran weighs heavily on his administration, according to a new national poll.

The survey shows that just 37% of Americans approve of Trump’s performance, while 63% disapprove — including half of respondents who say they strongly disapprove. The findings highlight a sharp decline in public confidence and underscore the political challenges ahead as the country approaches another election cycle.

Economic Anxiety Dominates Public Opinion

Economic concerns remain at the forefront of voters’ minds, with nearly three in ten Americans identifying the economy as the most important issue facing the country. Other concerns, such as threats to democracy, health care, and crime, trail significantly behind.

Among economic issues, inflation and the rising cost of living stand out overwhelmingly. Nearly half of respondents cited it as their top concern, far surpassing other financial pressures.

Only 32% of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of inflation, while 68% disapprove. More notably, a majority expressed strong dissatisfaction, signaling deep frustration over persistent price increases affecting everyday life.

The impact is being felt at a personal level. Forty percent of Americans say their financial situation has worsened over the past year, while just 19% report improvement — the most negative assessment recorded during Trump’s current term.

Gas prices have also emerged as a widespread concern, with nearly two-thirds of Americans saying they are a problem for their households. Lower-income and blue-collar workers are particularly affected, reflecting the uneven burden of rising costs across different segments of society.

Growing Pessimism About the Country’s Direction

The poll reveals a broader sense of national unease. Only one-third of Americans believe the country is on the right track, while two-thirds say it is headed in the wrong direction — the most pessimistic outlook recorded during Trump’s second term.

Even among Republicans, support appears to be softening slightly. While Trump continues to command strong backing within his party, overall approval among Republicans has dipped, and fewer now express strong enthusiasm for his performance compared to earlier in the year.

Widespread Opposition to the Iran War

The administration’s handling of the war with Iran is another major source of discontent. Two-thirds of Americans disapprove of Trump’s approach to the conflict, while only one-third approve.

Public opinion remained largely unchanged even after the announcement of a temporary ceasefire, suggesting that skepticism about the war runs deep.

Opposition is particularly strong among Democrats and independents, though even within the Republican base, a notable minority has expressed concern. Still, Trump retains strong support among his most loyal backers, including those aligned with the MAGA movement.

A clear majority of Americans — 61% — say the United States should not take further military action in Iran. Younger Americans are even more opposed, with nearly three-quarters of those under 30 favoring an end to military involvement.

Mixed Results on Immigration and Voting Policies

While Trump faces criticism on economic and foreign policy issues, there are signs of modest improvement in public opinion on immigration.

Approval of his handling of border security has ticked up slightly, though a majority of Americans still disapprove. The shift comes after changes within the administration, including leadership shakeups and adjustments in enforcement strategies.

At the same time, Trump is pushing for major changes to voting laws, including stricter identification requirements. The proposal has gained broad public support, with three-quarters of Americans backing the idea of requiring government-issued photo ID to vote.

Among those supporters, a majority also favor requiring proof of citizenship, highlighting strong public interest in tightening election security measures.

Political Implications Ahead

The poll’s findings present a complex picture for the administration and for Republicans more broadly. While Trump maintains a solid base of support, widespread dissatisfaction with the economy and foreign policy could pose challenges as lawmakers seek to defend their positions in upcoming elections.

The data also reflects a broader mood of uncertainty and concern among Americans, driven by both domestic financial pressures and international instability.

As the administration navigates these challenges, the coming months will likely play a crucial role in shaping public opinion — and determining whether current trends persist or begin to shift.
