TOWNSEND — With spring in full swing and nature coming back to life, the town is preparing to celebrate Earth Day with a full day dedicated to community and conservation.
Townsend’s annual Earth Day event will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the North Middlesex Regional High School parking lot, located at 19 Main St.
This year’s theme – water – will highlight the importance of protecting one of the planet’s most vital resources.
The event will feature a wide variety of activities for all ages, including local crafters and vendors, non-profit organizations, children’s games, and educational opportunities focused on sustainability.
Live entertainment will be offered throughout the day, including DJ Nicki Reed, belly dancing at 10:45 a.m., a magic show at 11:15 a.m., a whale-themed puppet show at 12:30 p.m., rock ’n’ roll gymnastics at 11:45 a.m., and a 2 p.m. performance by Parental Advisory, a North Middlesex Regional High School student band. Mapledell Farm of Townsend will also be on hand with some of their adorable farm animals.
In keeping with the environmental theme, several community collection efforts will be offered, including paper shredding from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., as well as collections for textiles, eyeglasses, returnable bottles and cans, coffee pods, and snack bags. Aluminum can pull-tabs will be collected for Shriners Hospitals for Children. Tabs can be dropped off at North Middlesex Regional High School’s Plant Club table.
One of the highlights of the day is the free plant and seed swap, where visitors are encouraged to bring bulbs, plants, or seeds to share with others.
Food will be available for purchase from the Pepperell Lions Club and a children’s clothing thrift area will offer gently used items, with donations accepted between 9 and 10 a.m.
In accordance with school regulations, smoking and animals are not permitted on site. Rain date will be Sunday, April 26. For more information, visit the Townsend Earth Day Facebook page.
