LANCASTER — A  national amputee soccer tournament is coming to Lancaster during Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month — the inaugural New England Amputee Soccer Open Cup.

The event will be held at SBLI Fields at Progin Park, 512 Old Union Turnpike, Lancaster, on Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April 25.

Friday matches will go from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturday matches will go from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. including community clinics and the championship match.

The event will feature some of the best players in the country (including U.S. National Team captain and Concord native Nico Calabria).

Organizers said the NE Open Cup is as a celebration of the sport and an opportunity for players of all abilities to come together and enjoy equal playing time, while building excitement ahead of this year’s Amputee Soccer World Cup.

As part of the weekend, there will also be Pan-Disability Recreation Clinics for youth amputee players and athletes with other disabilities, as well as coaching and refereeing education sessions aimed at widening the pool of people involved in adaptive soccer and helping people with disabilities step into leadership roles within the game.
