PRINCETON — Princeton Arts will present “Documentary Filmmaking,” a lecture by filmmaker Michael Singh, from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 24, at the Princeton Community Center, 206 Worcester Road.

“During the one-hour presentation, Michael will share clips from several of his award-winning documentary films and offer insight into how he transforms raw footage into compelling storylines,” said Jean Strock, a member of Princeton Arts. “Through behind-the-scenes explanations, audiences will learn about the creative and editorial decisions that shape real-life material into powerful narratives.”

Examples will include excerpts from a “medical reality” episode he produced and wrote for the Discovery Channel, a controversial essay film examining Islamophobia in Hollywood, and an autobiographical work-in-progress.

Singh will conclude the evening with five practical tips for shooting video with a smartphone — a tool increasingly embraced even by Hollywood directors.

“Princeton Arts has been honored to have Michael’s generous assistance in the creation of video profiles about two local artists,” said Strock. “The community is invited to enjoy ‘No More Pretty Pictures’, a profile of Charlie Gray, and ‘Chasing Birds — The Art of Barry Van Dusen’ at princetonarts.org.”
