ALBANY – The state legislature is dominated by a large Democratic majority, and that party’s leadership continues its internal struggle to reach a compromise to hammer out a state budget that is two weeks overdue.
Karl Brabenec (R, Deerpark) said his party is frustrated because the Democrats won’t even let them participate in the budget process.
“It looks like the leadership that is controlled by the Democratic party in New York State, and they are in the dark rooms trying to negotiate, and they are not letting us in for us to give input,” he said. “We go out there in the public. We give the public input as to what should and shouldn’t be in the budget, but unfortunately, the leadership is not interested in that.”
It needs to come to a conclusion and bring the minority Republicans into the negotiations since they represent some six million residents of the state, Brabenec said.
