NEWBURGH – The big push in the City of Newburgh is for affordable housing and economic development, but Councilwoman Ramona Monteverde would like to add a third component.

She would like to see an effort toward smart urban design.

“It’s time that we design our city with bike lanes. There is so much potential on Broadway,” she said. “I get a lot of calls; I get a lot of complaints about parking. We have all this development that we are talking about. We’re talking about building more affordable and market rate housing, but we really need to take a moment and start talking about smart design.”

Another Hudson Valley city, Kingston, has created bike lanes in its main thoroughfare redevelopment.
