HYDE PARK — Daniel Smith, 40, of Hyde Park, has been indicted by a Dutchess County Grand Jury on a series of sex crime charges, according to authorities. Smith was previously arraigned in March on a separate indictment for felony assault.

The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office said the latest 15-count indictment stems from alleged incidents in March in Hyde Park. The earlier single-count indictment involves an alleged incident in March in the City of Poughkeepsie.

District Attorney Anthony Parisi described the latest indictment as containing “deeply troubling allegations of repeated sexual violence, including multiple counts of predatory sexual assault and rape.” Parisi added that the charges allege conduct showing both the severity of the abuse and attempts to control and silence the victim. He emphasized that such cases require a victim-centered approach and praised the courage it takes for victims to come forward.

The latest indictment charges Smith with:
  • Four counts of felony predatory sexual assault
  • Four counts of felony rape
  • Two counts of felony aggravated sexual abuse
  • One count of felony sexual abuse
  • Two misdemeanor counts of assault
  • One count of misdemeanor obstruction of breathing
  • One count of misdemeanor tampering with a witness

On March 27, Dutchess County Court Judge Jessica Segal set Smith’s bail at $50,000 cash, $1 million partially secured bond, or $1.5 million unsecured bond. The same bail amounts were set for the new indictment.

Smith is scheduled to appear in court on both indictments on April 30, 2026.
