LEOMINSTER — In honor of Earth Day, Leominster is inviting residents to help keep the city looking its best during this year’s Leominster Cleanup, which runs from Wednesday, April 22, through Friday, May 22.
Volunteers will receive free T-shirts, trash bags and gloves. Participants can stop by the Office of Business and Tourism (Room 6, Leominster City Hall, 25 West St.) during regular business hours — Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and until 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays — to sign up. Supplies are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Residents can choose the time and location that works best for them. After collecting litter, volunteers should notify the Department of Public Works at 978-534-7596 about where the bags are left, and the DPW will pick them up.
“Pick your time, pick your location and pick up some trash,” said Melissa Tasca, small business coordinator, planning and development. “It’s a simple way to make a big difference and help keep Leominster beautiful.”
To mark Earth Day, the city will also host Earthfest, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, downtown at Monument Square.
Attendees can explore eco-friendly choices from local businesses and organizations. Visitors will also have the opportunity to shop for sustainable products and learn about resources available in the area. In the event of inclement weather, the program will move indoors to Leominster City Hall, 25 West St.
