FITCHBURG — Spring cleanup season is here, and Mayor Sam Squailia says she hopes people will join in for the upcoming 2026 Fitchburg City Cleanups.

“These cleanup days are a great way to get outside, meet neighbors, lend a hand, and help make Fitchburg cleaner, greener and more welcoming for everyone,” Squailia said. “Whether you can come to one event or several, your time and energy truly make a difference.”

“We are getting an early start this weekend with two kickoff cleanup efforts, and I hope you will join us,” she said.

Today, Saturday, April 11, from 8 to 11 a.m., the city and local volunteers will clean up Main Street, starting at City Hall, working their way down Main Street. They will clear sand and debris from sidewalks, picking up litter and preparing flowerpots and garden beds.

Then on Sunday, April 12, from 9 to 12 p.m., there will be a Ward 3 cleanup focused on the Rollstone and Electric Avenue roundabout, along with the Rollstone and 5th Mass Turnpike area. Ward 3 Councilor Bowen is helping lead that effort, and volunteers are looking forward to tackling both areas together.

For both of these kickoff events, feel free to bring brooms, shovels, blowers, yard waste bags, litter pickup supplies, work gloves or simply bring yourself.

“Every helping hand counts, and it is a great way to get some fresh air, get some steps in, and help beautify Fitchburg for our businesses, residents and visitors,” Squailia said.
