Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene escalated her dispute with President Donald Trump by calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked as voters in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District participated in a special election to fill the vacancy created by her January resignation.

The latest clash follows a statement from Trump warning on Truth Social that Iran’s “whole civilization will die tonight” unless developments lead to what he described as a transformative outcome after “Complete and Total Regime Change.” He added that “47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end,” and said the outcome would unfold during what he called “one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World.”

Greene responded publicly in a post on X, writing: “25TH AMENDMENT!!! Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization. This is evil and madness.”

The constitutional provision she referenced allows for presidential removal under specific conditions. As outlined in a Time Magazine explanation, Section Four of the 25th Amendment “allows the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet to declare the President unable to discharge his duties and instead vest those powers and duties in the Vice President. … Congress can also determine by a two-thirds vote whether to permanently remove the President or to return the President to his duties.”

The political dispute unfolded as voters cast ballots in the special election to replace Greene. Trump has backed Clay Fuller, a district attorney for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit and a lieutenant colonel serving as deputy staff judge advocate in the Air National Guard.

On the eve of the election, Trump issued a message on Truth Social urging turnout, stating: “There is a very important Special Election tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7th, in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District! I am asking all Republicans, America First Patriots, and MAGA Warriors, to please GET OUT AND VOTE for a fantastic Candidate, Clay Fuller, who has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

He added: “GA-14: Polls are open from 7:00 A.M to 7:00 P.M. IF YOU ARE IN LINE BY 7 P.M., STAY IN LINE, AND THEY MUST LET YOU VOTE! Election Day is TOMORROW, April 7th. GET OUT AND VOTE, VOTE, VOTE FOR CLAY FULLER — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”

Greene’s departure from Congress created the vacancy now being contested. Her resignation followed growing disagreements with Trump, particularly over foreign policy decisions related to Iran.

In prior appearances, Greene criticized the administration’s actions. During a March interview on CNN, she said the military campaign was creating a “perverted, deranged version” of the MAGA movement, adding, “This is not what we campaigned for. We said on every single rally stage, no more foreign wars, no more regime change. It’s time to put America first.”

She further stated that the policy direction represented “100% a betrayal” of voter expectations in 2024. In a separate interview on 60 Minutes, she said, “For an ‘America First’ president, the number one focus should have been domestic policy, and it wasn’t.”

Greene’s stance against foreign intervention also led to engagement with anti-war activists. CODEPINK cofounder Medea Benjamin visited her Capitol Hill office in December and later described Greene as a “strong anti war voice in congress.” Greene responded that she was “fully against funding foreign wars” and said she had “enjoyed a friendship” with Benjamin “for a few years.”

Trump has responded sharply to Greene’s criticism. Following her departure from Congress, he described the move as beneficial, stating it was “great news for the country.” He also said Greene was “not AMERICA FIRST or MAGA” and referred to her as “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown,” adding that she had become “a very dumb person.”

The outcome of the special election will determine who fills the open seat as tensions between Greene and Trump continue to unfold publicly.
