POUGHKEEPSIE — A man who was arrested Monday morning for allegedly attempting to break into a Poughkeepsie home was stabbed later that night during a separate incident, according to City of Poughkeepsie police.
Police said the man was taken into custody just after 7 a.m. Monday after allegedly trying to break into a home on Arnold Road. The homeowner, an off-duty police officer, confronted the man before a brief foot pursuit. The suspect was arraigned in City of Poughkeepsie Court and released pending a future court date under New York’s bail reform laws.
At about 11 p.m. Monday, officers responded to Wilbur Boulevard and Hooker Avenue for a reported stabbing.
Police said a woman, who was at the scene, told officers she confronted a man attempting to break into her vehicle. During a struggle, the man was stabbed. Police later confirmed the victim was the same man arrested earlier that day.
The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.
