MONTICELLO – Dr. Steven Fishman is the owner of Catskill Dermatology, and he has seen a dramatic rise in patients coming in with tick bites, urging people to be careful while they are outdoors.
“Wear tight clothing when they’re out in the woods and hiking, and certainly wear socks and pants that straddle the socks. So there’s no way for the tick to get in.”
He says ticks are unusually abundant.
“Already this season, even with the harsh winter, is even surprising me because it was so brutally cold and there was so much snow that I’m already seeing patients coming in with ticks on them.”
After you come indoors, you should always check your body for ticks.
“A lot of times, someone tries to remove the tick on their own and is not successful, and tick parts get left in.”
If you suspect you have been bitten, seek medical advice.
