Have you ever heard of a “Portuguese Podengo?”

Meet Figgy Pudding, a 40-pound Portuguese Podengo pup with an active nose, a love of play and a stand-up ears that help him hear when you’re holding a toy or a treat.

This little fellow had a rough start and when he arrived at Broken Tail Rescue, volunteers report that “he was underweight, overwhelmed and convinced that literally everything was suspicious — humans included. Fast-forward a few months in foster care, and Figgy is learning that homes are cozy, people can be kind, and toys? Toys are amazing!”

His crate is his “safe haven,” and he prefers to eat, sleep and retreat when it’s time for a recharge.

He’d do well with an adopter or family who are patient and will let him move at his own pact. He’s 4 years old and will blossom in a home where he can enjoy walks and hikes. He loves the outdoors and loves “scent-work.” He adores other dogs — but needs a slow and careful introduction. Currently being fostered in Leominster, his adoption fee is $600 and he has been vaccinated and neutered, so he’s ready to begin his new life with a happy fur-mily.
