LOCH SHALDRAKE – Up to 15 full-time positions will be eliminated at SUNY Sullivan as part of the school’s Framework for Financial Stability, College President Dr. David Potash announced on Tuesday.

There will be no change to the college’s academic programs, which will continue without interruption, he said, and no currently enrolled student will be left without a clear path to completing their degree.

Potash said the layoffs are the consequences of the financial realities facing many small public colleges across New York and the nation.

He said the changes have been made to reflect a commitment to building the strongest possible foundation for the college’s next chapter.

Enrollment in the past two years has shot up with 40 percent increase in the Nursing program, a 60 percent in the Medical Assistant program, and a 70 percent increase in the Respiratory Care program.

“We are seeing genuine progress in our efforts to expand access and grow enrollment,” said Potash. “The adults returning to school through Reconnect, the high school students earning college credits in their own communities, the men and women training to become nurses and first responders – these are the students SUNY Sullivan exists to serve. This restructuring is about ensuring we can serve them well, now and for decades to come.”
