FITCHBURG — The Finnish Center at Saima Park, located at 67 Scott Road, will offer three levels of Finnish language classes this spring beginning Monday, April 6.
Finland native Saija Laurla will instruct all classes, which are known for being lively and fun. Along with learning pronunciation and fundamentals of this challenging language, students will also hear stories about Finnish culture.
Classes will run for ten consecutive Mondays. Advanced students will meet from 3:15 to 5 p.m.; beginner students will meet from 4:45 to 6:30 p.m.; and intermediate students will meet from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m.
In true Finnish tradition, “kahvitauko” (coffee time) will be offered between sessions, from 4:45 to 5 p.m. and again from 6:30 to 6:45 p.m.
Tuition for the 10-week course is $75 for Finnish Center at Saima Park members, and $80 for non-members. Textbooks needed for the classes are “Suomen Mestari 2” for advanced students and “Suomen Mestari 1” for beginner and intermediate students. Books are available at Ruslania and Amazon.
