MAHOPAC- The Putnam County Historian’s Office is teaming up with the Mahopac Library to host two special programs highlighting the voices, music, and experiences of women during the American Revolutionary era.
This afternoon, the Ministers of Apollo Chamber Ensemble will present a chamber music concert featuring works inspired by the period and performed by an ensemble of talented musicians and next Saturday the library will host “Remember the Ladies: 18th-Century Women in Song,” a performance that brings to life the stories, music, and perspectives of women during the Revolutionary period. The program highlights the cultural contributions of women whose voices helped shape the spirit of the era.
Putnam County Historian Jennifer Cassidy said the programs reflect the mission of the Revolutionary Putnam Committee to make history engaging and accessible.
“Women’s voices were essential to the Revolutionary era, yet their stories are often underrepresented in traditional history,” said Cassidy who added: “Programs like these allow us to explore perspectives through music and performance, offering audiences a deeper understanding of life during the 18th century and the many ways women contributed to the American story.”
The events are part of Putnam County’s broader Revolutionary Putnam County initiative, which is preparing the community for the 250th anniversary of American independence while highlighting the county’s unique role in the nation’s founding.
Today’s concert begins at 2 p.m.
