DRACUT — Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Friday evening after a man was confronted by two masked suspects and assaulted outside a Pleasant Street business.
The Dracut Police said they were called to the area of 16 Pleasant St. at about 6:10 p.m., where they learned the victim had just finished closing a business when two masked men dressed in black approached him, including one armed with a handgun.
During the course of the encounter, police said the victim was struck in the back of the head with a blunt object.
The suspects stole several personal items before fleeing in a silver Ford Explorer, heading toward Lowell. Dracut Police immediately notified surrounding departments to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
A short time later, just before 6:50 p.m., the same SUV was spotted at an intersection in Lowell and was later seen entering a garage at a Maple Street address.
Police subsequently learned from the Lawrence Police Department that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of their city.
On Saturday, the Dracut Police executed a search warrant at the Maple Street location with assistance from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team. Officers located the stolen Explorer inside the garage, and the vehicle was towed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police said they do not believe there is any continued threat to the public.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Dracut Police Department at 978‑957‑2123.
