Congressman and U.S. Senate candidate Seth Moulton has purchased a new, $3.1 million home in Marblehead after a crushing hometown loss to Sen. Ed Markey in the Salem Democratic City Committee caucus.

Markey swept up delegates as he took six of seven of Salem’s wards from Moulton, according to the State House News Service. Markey’s campaign tells the Herald that the junior Massachusetts Senator walked away with 27 delegates to Moulton’s total of eight.

“Senator Markey is grateful for the overwhelming support he’s received at caucuses across the Commonwealth — from the Merrimack Valley and the North Shore to Western Mass and the Cape and Islands. Massachusetts Democrats know what’s at stake: they want a proven fighter who will stand up to Donald Trump’s chaos, defend our progressive values, and deliver real results for working families,” Markey Campaign Spokesperson Jonathan Ng told the Herald. “That’s exactly what they have in Senator Markey — and the widespread support we continue to see is a testament to the confidence they have in the job he’s doing.”

But Moulton’s campaign is coming out swinging, calling out Markey for his nearly half-century in Washington and highlighting caucus wins for Moulton, including all 21 delegates in Swampscott and Ipswich, and majority of delegates in Dartmouth, Gloucester, Beverly, Gloucester, and Lawrence.

“Senator Markey has been in Washington for 48 years, and the status quo isn’t delivering for Massachusetts. While insiders underestimate this campaign, Seth is winning caucuses across the Commonwealth and reinvigorating participation the caucus process,” Hebble said. “If our party wants to win, we need the momentum Seth is building right now—not more of the same. It’s clear that Massachusetts voters want to have a choice this September.”

Markey has also been raking in endorsements, most recently from the Massachusetts Postal Workers Executive Board and most importantly from several mayors – including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Salem Mayor Dominick Pangallo. Markey has also earned the endorsement of Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07).

Moulton’s new home

Southern Essex Registry of Deeds records show that Moulton and his wife on February 18 purchased a five-bed, seven-bath, 5,900 square foot Gambrel-style masterpiece located close to Grace Oliver Beach at 2 Beacon Hill Road for $3.1 million.

“Marblehead is Congressman Moulton’s hometown. The family is grateful that Liz’s successful career allowed them to take the opportunity to purchase this home. One thing is certain: unlike Senator Markey, Seth will continue to live in Massachusetts,” said Moulton Campaign Communications Director Taylor Hebble, sharing a Herald column that suggests Markey’s Malden home is all but abandoned.

The home also features luxury appliances and finishings, like Wolf brand kitchen appliances along with Sub-Zero refrigeration, a “spa-like bath,” walk-in closets in the bedrooms that also boast private decks, and even a game room and private office, according to a listing of the property still featured on Zillow.

“Nearly 6,000 sq. ft. of thoughtfully designed luxury living space close to Grace Oliver Beach and downtown Marblehead. The chef’s kitchen features Wolf appliances, Sub-Zero refrigeration, Quartzite double-slab island, two dishwashers, and high end lighting. Off the kitchen, enjoy a vaulted dining room with shiplap accents and a dramatic chandelier. The great room impresses with a soaring 20-foot ceiling and a custom floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace,” the listing says.

“The first floor also includes a stylish mudroom, den, and private office. Upstairs offers five spacious bedrooms, including three en suites. The primary suite is a retreat with a spa-like bath, custom walk-in closet, and private deck. The finished lower level features a family room, game room, and gym. Outside, enjoy a covered patio overlooking a private professionally landscaped yard with blue stone hardscaping and an outdoor fireplace. Perfection!” it says.
