Spring’s arrival means it’s time for the Brush Art Gallery’s Four by Four for Education event. This year, it’s on Saturday, March 28 at 2 p.m. with a snow date of March 29.
Artists were given 4X4 blank, stretched canvases and told to design their work of art using materials of their choosing. Tickets are on sale now and the purchase of a ticket guarantees you’ll go home with a miniature work of art.
The Four by Four raises funds for the Brush Gallery’s UMass Lowell Art Scholarship. This scholarship is granted to a deserving University of Massachusetts student majoring in the visual arts. This event also partially funds art education for challenged adults through our Special Perspectives program — currently Megan’s House, a transition program for young women recovering from addiction.
Meanwhile, the Brush asks you to Save the Date for Saturday, April 25 for An Evening for Vanna Howard at Long Meadow Golf Club in Lowell.
The release notes: “As a public servant, Vanna Howard is a natural. She is approachable and generous with her time. Often seen at nonprofit events, city events, and art receptions, she intrigues community members with her never ending schedule.
Vanna moved to Lowell in 1991 when hired as a bilingual secretary. She was the first Khmer woman to serve in Massachusetts General Court and gained experience working as an assistant to Niki Tsongas as a Constituent Services Representative (2008 to 2015) and as Regional Director (2015 to 2019).
She has served as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from the 17th Middlesex District since January 2021. In 2023 Vanna sponsored a resolution to recognize Cambodian Genocide Remembrance Day that was adopted by the House.
Vanna has been a longtime supporter of the arts and the studio artists at the Brush Art Gallery and Studios, Merrimack Repertory Theater, Girls Inc., the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association and countless other organizations in Lowell.
