SHIRLEY — In recognition of Women’s History Month and the 250th anniversary of America’s Revolution, the Shirley Historical Society will spotlight four of the town’s own revolutionary women.

The program will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, at the Shirley Historical Society Museum, 182 Center Road. Guests are invited to enjoy tea and cookies while listening to selected readings from the works of four remarkable women with ties to Shirley.

Featured will be author and editor Sarah Edgarton Mayo; author, publisher and feminist Helen Winslow; dramatist and suffragette Hazel MacKaye; and artist and Vietnam War protester Shirley Lawton Houde. Through their writings and activism, each woman challenged the conventions of her time and left a lasting impact.

Memorabilia from Shirley’s Bicentennial celebration will also be on display. Sales items supporting the town’s upcoming 250th celebration will be available.

All are welcome to attend.
