WHITE PLAINS – A former Metro-North Railroad cashier at the White Plains office has been sentenced to three years’ probation for stealing some $206,000 from the agency.

Tom Shabani, 61, of Millwood, paid restitution to the MTA and has agreed to forfeit 25 percent of his pension as a condition of the plea agreement.

Shabani had pled guilty to felony grand larceny for taking the money, which he stole from a counting room and concealed it in Tupperware-style containers.

When his vehicle was later searched, some of the money was discovered alongside hundreds of dollars worth of lottery tickets.

Shabani is no longer employed by Metro-North.

The case was investigated by the MTA Police Department.
