President Donald Trump on Thursday called on congressional Republicans to make passage of the SAVE America Act their top priority, describing the proposed election legislation as a defining issue for the country.

In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump urged lawmakers to pursue the legislation aggressively and warned against approving a modified version of the bill.

“The Republicans MUST DO, with PASSION, and at the expense of everything else, THE SAVE AMERICA ACT – And not the watered down version. This is a Country Defining fight for the Soul of our Nation!” Trump wrote.

In a second Truth Social post, Trump outlined several policy goals he said should be associated with the measure, including requirements for voter identification, proof of citizenship for voting, restrictions on mail-in ballots and additional policies related to transgender participation in women’s sports and medical procedures involving minors.

The legislation currently before Congress focuses primarily on election eligibility and does not include the broader issues mentioned by Trump.

The proposal known as the SAVE America Act is centered on verifying citizenship for voters participating in federal elections.

Under the bill’s provisions, individuals registering to vote would be required to present documentary proof of U.S. citizenship before their registration could be accepted.

According to the legislative framework described on the White House website for the proposal at saveamerica, states would be prohibited from accepting or processing voter registration applications for federal elections unless documentation verifying citizenship is provided.

Accepted forms of identification could include documents that meet the standards of the REAL ID Act of 2005 and demonstrate U.S. citizenship.

The legislation would also require states to establish alternative procedures allowing applicants to present other evidence verifying citizenship if standard documentation is unavailable.

In addition to requirements for new registrations, the bill calls for states to regularly review voter rolls and implement procedures designed to ensure that only U.S. citizens remain registered to vote in federal elections.

States would be required to establish programs to identify individuals who are not citizens by using information obtained from certain data sources. Officials would then be required to remove any identified noncitizens from voter registration lists.

The measure also creates a private right of action allowing legal challenges against election officials who register voters without verifying citizenship status.

Criminal penalties are included in the proposal for certain violations, including registering individuals who fail to provide the required documentation.

Trump’s public comments urging swift passage of the bill come as congressional Republicans continue debating election-related legislation and broader voting policy reforms.

In his second Truth Social post, Trump summarized what he described as core election principles tied to the legislation.

“THE SAVE AMERICA ACT! ALL VOTERS MUST SHOW VOTER I.D. (IDENTIFICATION!). ALL VOTERS MUST SHOW PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP IN ORDER TO VOTE,” Trump wrote.

“NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS (EXCEPT FOR ILLNESS, DISABILITY, MILITARY, OR TRAVEL!).”

The president added additional policy positions related to sports participation and medical decisions involving minors in the same post.

Congress has not yet set a final timeline for consideration of the bill. Republican lawmakers have indicated that election security measures remain a key legislative priority.
