WORCESTER — The Hanover Theatre Repertory — THT Rep – named “Call Me Izzy” star and Emmy-winning CBS correspondent Jamie Wax as its inaugural Playwright-in-Residence, marking a new investment in developing original work within the region and creating world-class theatre in Worcester.

Over the course of the four-week residency Wax utilized the company’s creative resources for focused writing time while collaborating in the room with artists, according to a press release. The residency culminates this coming Friday and Sunday, March 6 and March 8, at the BrickBox Theater located inside the Jean McDonough Arts Center at 20 Franklin St. with staged readings of his new play centered on three high-risk expectant mothers and two overworked nurses in the maternity wing of a newly integrated Louisiana hospital.

The readings will feature his “Doubt” castmate and Broadway actor Johanna Day and give area audiences an early look at a work in development. The initiative reflects THT Rep’s broader commitment to strengthening the regional arts ecosystem by attracting talent, creating professional opportunities, and presenting new work locally rather than solely in larger coastal markets.
