POUGHKEEPSIE – A Kingston man has been arraigned on a Dutchess County grand jury indictment charging him with vehicular manslaughter and driving while impaired by the combined influence of drugs, both as felonies.
It is alleged that in the late afternoon on December 14, 2025, Richard Rider, 46, failed to maintain his lane and crashed his Ford F-150 into a Honda Accord going in the other direction on Albany Post Road in the Town of Hyde Park.
The Honda was driven by 28-year-old Alijah Johnson, who was pronounced dead at the scene. An analysis of Rider’s blood revealed the presence of Clonazepam, Diazepam, Nordiazepam, Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, and Methadone.
Rider was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $750,000 cash bail, $1.5 million bond, or $3 million partially secured bond.
