LUNENBURG — The Lunenburg Community Food Pantry is looking for approximately 3,500-4,000 square feet of usable space to continue serving the community without interruption after being asked to vacate their space at the TC Passios building.
“Do you know of any available space in Lunenburg that could potentially accommodate the Pantry’s needs temporarily or permanently? This could include vacant commercial space, unused warehouse space, or land where a future facility could be constructed,” the Food Pantry said in a release.
At the Select Board meeting on Feb. 10 Town Manager Jennifer Warren said the town is looking to have as many groups as possible vacate the building prior to the beginning of fiscal 2027, July 1, 2026. The goal would be decommissioning the building before the next heating season, the winter 2026–2027 to avoid another year of operating costs in the range of $120,000 a year.
“We have been very grateful to the Town for the space that has been provided for the Food Pantry since October 2021,” said the release. “The generosity of the community, the support of previous and current Select Boards, and our army of volunteers and contributors has been truly heartwarming. The gratitude of our neighbors and clients is evident every day.”
Each week, the Pantry receives and distributes food through multiple coordinated channels, including the Worcester County Food Bank, on average 3,000 pounds per week, Hannaford donations 3 days per week, Lunenburg resident donations, and donations from Town, School, and Local organization food drives.
Relocating a fully operational food pantry, including refrigeration, storage, shelving, and fresh and frozen foods, within the proposed time frame presents significant logistical and operational obstacles and represents a challenging timeline for a transition of this scope.
“However, with support from both the town and the community, a successful transition is achievable,” the release said
