ALBANY – Putnam County Clerk Michael Bartolotti has described the relationship fostered between county clerks and the Department of Motor Vehicles as being unprecedented under the leadership of Commissioner Mark Schroeder.
On Thursday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that Schroeder would be retiring in April after more than seven years of service in that capacity.
Bartolotti had a special relationship with the commissioner, who visited the Putnam DMV office in Brewster on a regular basis.
“The commissioner listened to the county clerks and, whenever possible, gave us a place at the table,” Bartolotti said. “He realized the hard work we do every day to promote organ donation and made sure that district offices and the administration in Albany followed suit, which resulted in historic increases in donation enrollment. I believe that he has done more for us and with us than any other commissioner.”
Ulster County Clerk Taylor Bruck said that “Commissioner Mark Schroeder led with accessibility and clarity.”
“He was always available to County Clerks and was clear in his goals, making us true partners in the work,” Bruck said. “We’re grateful for his service and the strong foundation he leaves behind.”
“Commissioner Schroeder brought a wealth of understanding of private sector and government experience to the benefit of County Clerks across the state,” Dutchess County Clerk Brad Kendall added. “He ensured that we would have the resources we need to run our local DMV offices.”
