Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton publicly released her opening statement Thursday before appearing for a closed-door deposition before the House Oversight Committee as part of its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.
Clinton and former President Bill Clinton agreed to testify after House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer advanced proceedings to hold them in criminal contempt of Congress. Hillary Clinton is scheduled to testify Thursday, with Bill Clinton set to appear Friday.
The depositions are being conducted remotely from an office in Chappaqua, New York, the Clintons’ hometown.
In her prepared statement, Clinton said she does not recall encountering Epstein. She addressed issues related to human trafficking and reiterated support for accountability and transparency surrounding Epstein’s crimes.
Clinton shared her full opening remarks publicly, writing on social media, “Here is my opening statement to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee today.” The post can be viewed here.
Images of Clinton during the deposition were also circulated online. A photograph described as the first image of Clinton testifying under oath about Epstein was shared on social media by commentator Benny Johnson, who stated the photo was provided by Rep. Lauren Boebert. The post can be viewed here and read below:

The House Oversight Committee has been conducting a broad inquiry into Epstein’s network and the extent of any connections to prominent public figures. The depositions are part of that continuing investigation.
