The U.S. Treasury Department on Wednesday announced a new round of Iran-related sanctions targeting more than 30 individuals, entities and vessels, hours after President Donald Trump outlined his position on Iran during his State of the Union address to Congress.
The Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said the sanctions focus on networks accused of facilitating illicit Iranian petroleum sales and supporting Iran’s ballistic missile and advanced conventional weapons programs.
According to Treasury, the designations include individuals and companies allegedly involved in the transport and sale of Iranian oil, as well as tankers said to have participated in those transactions.
OFAC also targeted multiple procurement networks that it said assist Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics in acquiring precursor materials and specialized machinery used in ballistic missile development and other weapons production.
The Treasury Department stated that the sanctions are intended to disrupt financial and logistical channels supporting Iran’s military capabilities and revenue generation through oil exports.
The action comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the administration signaling a willingness to consider additional measures as diplomatic efforts continue. Treasury officials said the designations freeze any U.S.-based assets of those listed and generally prohibit U.S. persons from engaging in transactions with them.
Further details about the specific individuals, companies and vessels named in the sanctions were released in OFAC’s public designation notices.
