CARMEL – More than $27 million contained in 156,900 unclaimed accounts are owed to Putnam County residents—cash dating back to the 1940’s.

Working in conjunction with the State Comptroller’s Office, Putnam Legislator Bill Gouldman and the German American Social Club of Putnam Valley are coordinating a forum next month to discuss the types of funds held by the state as well as how to claim individual’s money.

“When a person forgets about an old bank account, utility deposit or other types of accounts, that money can eventually be turned over to the State Comptroller’s office.  We are trying to raise awareness about unclaimed funds.  It’s your money, you should claim it,” Gouldman said.

“In hard times this money can help stretch your budget, so you have more to spend on essential things. Be proactive.  See if the state has any of your money.”

During the 2024-25fiscal year, claims paid to Putnam County residents totaled accounts valued at $1,726,062.”

Gabi Madden of the State Comptroller’s Office said, “each day our staff returns $2 million to entitled owners across the state.”

The forum is planned for March 25 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the club located at 11 Kramers Pond Road in Putnam Valley.
