HUDSON VALLEY- Residents of Orange County are being urged to prepare for a significant winter storm set to impact the Hudson Valley beginning Sunday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect from 6 a.m. Sunday, February 22, through 6 p.m. Monday, February 24. Forecasters say heavy snow is expected throughout the period, with the most intense snowfall likely Sunday night.
Snowfall rates could be high at times, leading to substantial accumulations by the time the storm tapers off Monday evening. Strong winds, with gusts up to 40 mph Sunday night, are also expected to create areas of blowing and drifting snow, significantly reducing visibility.
Daytime temperatures are forecast to reach the lower 30s, with overnight lows dipping into the mid- to upper-20s, keeping conditions cold enough for snow to stick to roads and surfaces.
Officials advise residents to avoid travel if possible, particularly Sunday night, as road conditions are expected to be hazardous. Motorists who must travel should use caution and allow extra time. Residents are also encouraged to prepare for the possibility of isolated power outages due to the combination of heavy snow and gusty winds.
